KickStarter Friday - An Innovation For A Flashlight
Everyone has had to use and carry a flashlight at one time or another. The problem is that carrying one is not always the easiest things to do. Those round devices which run on various size batteries are generally uncomfortable to slide into a pocket and carry around. On ones that attach to a key chain, they add bulk in your pocket. I am into lightweight and very easy to carry in everything that I do. So, for a flashlight to be really portable and usable, it needs to fit those categories to be something that I carry with me all the time. I have too many flashlights that sit in drawers until they are ready to be used and as generally happens, they need batteries.
Enter the Flatlight which is an active KickStarter project. They are well on their way of exceeding the project goal of $15,000 of a new and thin flashlight. The Flatlight is 3.57 inches long and 1.99 inches wide, which is close to the size of a credit card. And it is only 0.11 inches thick where your normal credit card is 0.03 inches thick. So they have really gotten this down to a great size.
What makes the Flatlight innovative is that it contains a circuit board which holds 2 of the small flat round batteries (CR2016) for power. And they are claiming that it will run for 10 or more hours of continuous use. That is quite a claim and is accomplished by the circuit board which is an on board processor to handle functions and control the light being emitted.
One thing which is going to make this a popular light is the logo which appears on the back of the Flatlight which has light behind it. This is going to be a popular item for companies to put their logo on the back to give away or promote their products.
The Flatlight is not the flashlight that you want to be using for normal outdoor activities, but in a pinch, it is right there to pull out to help. Putting your key in a lock when it is dark is a perfect example of a usage for this. For a pledge of $20 or more, you will get one Flatlight which is scheduled to be shipped in May. The Flatlight KickStarter project ends on February 13, 2013.
