Connected Cars To Help WIth Driving

My Sync
The idea of having a computer control your car is coming in the future. The Google cars which drive themselves is a great example of what we may see everywhere in 10 or more years as the car of the future. These computer controlled cars will significantly reduce accidents on the roads along with getting us to our destinations in the most efficient route. While this is something of the future with connected cars, much of that future is coming to us now. And, if you have purchased a new car recently which is connected to the Internet, you are already taking advantage of the technology.

Many of the current on board computers have the ability to sync with the Cloud, storing information and getting real time information regarding traffic. With an always on connection to the Web, there are many benefits which can be used today and not in the future. That is where connected cars come in to provide benefit. We have heard for years where cars have the ability to apply the brakes before the driver when it is determined an accident is about to happen. It is that technology which has computers controlling the cars. But, connected cars is about much more than that.

The big advantage coming is the ability to reduce traffic gridlock for us. With an always on connection in your car, along with GPS coordinates being tracked, your location is always known. And when a majority of cars on the road have the same always on connection, traffic flow and patterns can be tracked and reviewed. Computers in the Cloud can warn you of traffic congestion or whether you are coming up on an accident. They can warn you to take a different route to your destination. With all those connected cars, they can talk to each other and warn if you are getting to close to each other.

But, the bigger questions is whether connected cars can make us better drivers?. Maybe not, but they can make for a better driving experience. Automatic braking will save lives and reduce damage from accidents. But what about other activities you do. Avoiding traffic congestion or accidents is a big deal. It will reduce costs, including that of fuel. There is even the potential to help you find a parking space saving you time and fuel.

When all the great features of connected cars will come to the masses is a slowly evolving process. But when it does, expect to see immediate benefit to a growing number of people in reduced accidents and costs.
